Dr. Kardomateas is a Professor of Aerospace Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia, USA. His expertise is in the Mechanics of Structures and Materials. He holds a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1985) and he is the author of three books,the editor of several book volumes, the author of many parts of books and the author of numerous articles in referreed journals and conference proceedings.  His specific interests are in the areas of Fracture Mechanics and Fatigue Behavior, Composite and Sandwich Structural Behavior, Stability (Buckling/Postbuckling), Mechanics of Nano-structured Materials and Mechanics of Piezo-Electro-Magneto-Elastic Solids. Dr. Kardomateas has been the principal investigator and project director of many Academic Grants sponsored by the Office of Naval Research, the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the Army Research Office, the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Rotorcraft Technology Center and several Industries. He is a Fellow of the ASME, has served as Associate/Contributing Editor of several Journals, and as Chairman of the Composites Committee of ASME.
